Weekend Training

The weather looks like it will improve for the long weekend. Expect sunnier conditions and light winds but low-ish temps. With the extra day, it’s a good opportunity to put in a good block of training. If you are looking for good training then you have come to the right place. We will be out on the bikes on Sat, Sun and Mon. This Saturday we are throwing a few hills into the mix and on Sunday we are going long. Best of luck to everyone at the Dublin City Marathon this weekend too.

Saturday Spin: meet at the Hotel at 9:00 (racing cyclists out at 8:00am)

Route: we are going to throw in our first real hill into our Saturday training. The route takes all our groups together out to Moneygall, around the roundabout and back to Toomevara. Here the racing cyclists will push on ahead to get a little gap before we reach the Thurles road at Ballinamona. Both groups head down the Thurles road to Seáníns and turn left. After the climb take another left back to Toomevara. For most, 1 lap of this will be fine. For the bike racing group you will be doing 3 repeats of this circuit, turning left in Toomevara each time after descending from Seáníns. We advise each group to go up the climb at a steady pace and wait for your group on the top if some are dropped.

Sunday Spin: meet at Tescos at 8:00am

Racing: Dublin City Marathon

Route: we will try a new-ish route on Sunday. It’s all on flat roads so we will be looking for some speed ensurance here. The groups will split in Portumna and roll all the way to Birr, Roscrea and on to the food stop in Templemore (Amber garage before the town). That is 60km of rolling, so don’t kill yourself at the start – pace it! Anyone looking for a shorter one can turn for home at Birr or Roscrea.

Monday Spin: arranged through Viber. Add your name to our Viber accounts to stay up to date with training.
