Club Updates: 24/11/19
This weekend’s weather looked worse than it actually was. It was dull and cloudy and a little bit cold, but it proved good weather for cycling as there was no frost, no rain and no wind. We took full advantage by putting in some big mileage over the weekend. Over the Sat and Sun we had 27 cyclists out on the road. The scratch bunch is going well but we could always do with a few more in the other bunch. Many have already made the decision to hibernate for the winter and wait for better weather. Yes, it’s tough to take to the roads in winter but if you really want to improve it has to be done. These are the tough weeks that bring the big results in the coming season. We can all train in the good weather, what makes the difference is training when it’s not easy. Purchase some good winter gear and start clocking up the miles. Next weekend we will be heading into December. Two months down already. Time flies when you are having fun!
- Monday: Circuit Training with Bertie – GAA complex at 7:00pm
- Mid-week turbos: sessions are arranged through Viber.
- Thursday: running speed set with the Tri Club at 7:00pm at Nenagh College.
- Saturday: main club cycle – 9:00 at the Hotel.
- Sunday: long distance club cycle – 8:00 at Tescos.
- Run sessions: our run group try to get out running every mid-week morning at 6:00 from the library. The pace is slow and conversational and we try to cover 10 miles each morning. These sessions are organised through the Nenagh Run Racing viber account.
Viber & Strava: the best way to communicate with the club (bar getting on your bike and coming out cycling with us!) is to join our Viber account. We have one for cycling and one for running. Record your training through Strava and you can join our club Strava account there too.
Rear Lights: the Sunday morning spin starts at 8:00. For the next month it will be pretty dark at that time so make sure to have a rear light on your bike.
Run Group: all is quiet at the moment but the racing should kick off again in December. We will have the usual Christmas Day Run to look forward to. The County Senior Cross Country is also on plus loads of other road races. Training continues at 6:00 in the mornings, on Thursday with the tri club and informal sessions via Viber. The big goal for 2020 is looking like the Dublin City Marathon. Below are Eoin and David night hill running in Moylussa.
Club Membership & Cycling Ireland Insurance: both are due
Weekend Training: We did our Dolla hill top finish route on Saturday. This time last year it was Buckley’s starring moment as he scalped King Kenneth by winning the race to the top (this was Kenneth’s lowest moment on a bike). Things were put right this year as Kenneth put Eoin to the sword to regain top dog status. On Sunday we had 15 on the bike for the 3rd week in a row. This time we took on the 4 hour long Portumna, Birr, Templemore route. A cross wind and head wind for the rolling section made the workout tough. Only two lads turned for home early, no guesses as to who one of the guilty party was. This is the sort of guy where if you just had to cycle to Birdhill and back, he would turn around at Roundhill! It’s great to see 13 riders covering 130km today and not a bother on anyone.
