Club Updates: 10/02/20
Storm Ciara forced the cancellation of our Sunday cycle but at least we got a good one in on Saturday. It was still very windy on the hilly route on Saturday so we were understandably very tired after it. Perhaps it wasn’t a bad thing getting a rest the day after. We have a big weekend coming up with the running of WW3 on Saturday. It kicks off at 10:30 so let’s hope for some decent weather for it. The route is available to view below. This starts a run of high tempo events that bring us right into the start of the season. Racing numbers for most have been delivered; this is a sure sign that things are about to get serious. The gear order will be put in this week and finally, in racing action, Eoin Woolley took part in the 50km ultra run in Donadea.
- Monday: Circuit Training with Bertie – GAA complex at 7:00pm
- Mid-week turbos: sessions are arranged through Viber.
- Thursday: running speed set with the Tri Club at 7:00pm at Nenagh College.
- Saturday: Winter Warrior 3 – 10:30 at Lisboney Ind. Estate. Leisure group pull out at 10:15 SHARP.
- Sunday: long distance club cycle – 8:00 at Tescos.
- Run sessions: early morning 6:00am, Mon, Wed, Fri from the library.
Winter Warrior 3
The 3rd of 4 winter warrior rides takes place this coming Saturday at Lisboney Ind. Estate at 10:30. As the events progress they get increasingly harder. This event is longer than the first 2 and there is a tough hill thrown in to test you all. We ask all those that take part to respect the rules of the road, don’t cross the white lines and stop at T-Junctions and roundabouts if needs be. There will likely be no marshals on the road.
Prize: we have one hamper to be won by the race winner!
- Leisure group: 10:15
- A4 Group: 10:30
- A3 Group: 10:35
- A1/A2 Group: 10:40
Route: you go from Nenagh to Roscrea and back to Toomevara. On the far side of Toom swing left and head towards Ballinamona cross. This is a T-Junction onto a busy road so prepare to stop. You turn left here and progress down the Thurles road for 4km before turning left and up Seáníns hill. This hill will take a little less than 10 minutes for most. On the descent take the first left and this will take you back to Toomevara where you turn left into the village and then left again onto the main road. From here, it’s 10km back to the finish at Lisboney graveyard (brown sign) outside Nenagh.
Weekend Training: 11 of us braved the pre-storm conditions on Saturday. The combination of a hilly route and strong winds scared many people off. There were 7 lads in the racing group and they pushed a hard pace throughout. The 6 hills sapped the energy badly so it was no surprise to see just 6 finish the full route. On hard day like this you just need to do what you can.
Gear Order: the online store is now closed. Thanks to everyone for getting the gear ordered promptly. It should take 2 – 3 weeks to arrive – just in time for the racing season.
Donadea 50km: congrats to Eoin on finishing the Donadea 50km race on Forest paths on Saturday. He finished the race in a time of 4:09.
