Club Updates: 06/08/19

The Bank Holiday weekend allowed for a big block of training to be done. There were decent numbers out with the club training, and we also had a few out racing too. Only Seán Molloy was in racing action on the bike and he had a big result up in Louth winning a 1st A2 prize. There were running races in Birr, Dunmore and Gary continues his foreign training camp in the wilds of Donegal where he has just done 10 races in 9 days last week ( and people in our club complain about doing two summer league ‘races’ in 1 week! ). For cyclists your focus should now turn to the Charleville 2 Day, runners should look to do the County 10 Mile and adventure racers should focus on Quest Lough Derg. We are well capable of winning all those events so let’s finish the season in style.

Club Gear: the latest order has arrived. Get in contact with Will Killackey to collect.

Nenagh Racing – Run Group: it’s good to see everyone training so hard and racing times continuing to improve. We ask that members of the group set their sights on the County 10 Mile road race in Galbally which is coming up on Sunday, September 8th. You have just under 5 weeks to get ready for it. We will be racing in the Nenagh Olympic colours so let us know if you plan on going. We might organise some race specific training sessions in the weeks ahead so keep a look out on our run group viber page.

Weekend Racing

Leinster Classic: Seán Molloy had a very strong race up in Co. Louth on Sunday. He took part in the A1/A2/A3 handicap race and managed to win the prize for 1st A2 across the line. This wasn’t good enough however to get him into the points at the race, nevertheless it is still a strong result and it shows how much Seán has improved this year.

Birr 5km: the latest round of the Offaly Racing League too place on Friday. These races are always well attended and very competitive. It was good to see 3 of our lads, Shane, David and Alan on the start line and even better to see both David Sheahan and Alan Kelly running PBs for the distance. The lads finished in 7th Shane 16:28, 8th David 16:33 and 14th Alan 17:02. Alan is the one to watch out for in the future as he had been training hard and his times have been dropping quickly.

Other running races: Shane was 2nd in the Dunmore 6k in Galway on Monday. Gary has been doing so many races it’s just easier to let him give you a quick update “10 races in 9 consecutive days and counting. I won three races, Downings 5k, Kilcar 10k and Broaghshane 5k. Got into the top ten in the Streets of Sligo 5k.”

Loughrea Triathlon: Eoin Woolley mixed it up again this weekend by doing a triathlon in Loughrea. Eoin finished in 26th in a time of 1:08 for the sprint distance.
